Overview

About the job

Point 6 is looking for a Senior Designer to join our expanding team and contribute towards its ongoing success.

About us

Point 6 is a small agency of around twenty people with big ambitions for 2022. We have a beautiful studio in Queen’s Park, West London which is open every day — and we have a flexible working approach, with just one core day a week when we all get together for our ‘Tribe Day’. The rest of the time, it’s up to you where you work, as long as you’re comfortable. There’s a lot to learn in this role, but we have a strong onboarding culture and are proactive and hands-on when it comes to training. We value self-development and empower every member of our team to follow their passions both in work and outside of it.

We’re not a party-til-dawn kind of studio, but we’re a friendly, sociable bunch who enjoy regular lunchtime and after-work trips to the various local pubs and other fun team activities. We often use our core agency day to catch up with one another, something that is encouraged by the directors. Like everyone, we’ve spent far too much time apart over the last two years and relish the opportunity to come together and build the meaningful relationships that form the solid foundations of a successful agency. All in all, we adopt a people-first approach in everything we do, and it translates into thoughtful, high-quality work.

About you

Due to an influx of new work, we now need to expand our creative team. We’re looking for a Senior Designer who’s capable of strategic and joined-up thinking, to lead creative work across Marcom and packaging projects. On a typical day, this could include designing the consumer experience journey for a new product range, or working on a website project that includes a brand refresh — however, the work is dynamic and varied.

Regardless of if you’ve gained your sector experience in B2C or B2B, the important thing is that you demonstrate a clear understanding of ‘brand thinking’ — an appreciation of how best to create, articulate and implement a brand and its message across multiple touchpoints. There is a wealth of experience in our agency team, so the variety of projects you work on will be built on a solid base of understanding of each brand — and you’ll get support from right across the team. On a craft level, you’ll be someone who actively enjoys leading, mentoring or supporting less experienced designers.

Our clients span many sectors — from parenting, lighting and IoT to sustainability, education, healthcare, and health-tech brands — and our work ranges from brand creation to brand development, implementation and governance. If you can show proven expertise in one or more of these areas and/or sectors it will be a distinct advantage.

This is a key role best suited to someone who has first-hand experience of designing and developing work within complex brand guidelines at a leading design agency.

You should find orderliness satisfying and thrive in a process-driven environment. Having said that, you’ll also be keen to stretch brands creatively, using your experience to push boundaries. You’ll be no stranger to working collaboratively and will thrive on working alongside our copywriters and other team members on a healthy mix of branding, design, digital, packaging and print projects.

The more strings you have in your bow the better — our team demonstrates multiple disciplines, such as repro, retouching and video editing. And although it’s not a prerequisite for the role, it’s certainly a bonus.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone cheerful, enthusiastic and collaborative, who will contribute to the positive, can-do atmosphere in the team and help us reach new creative heights. If you’re reading this and nodding along, then this may well be the job for you!

Your responsibilities

  • You will work closely with our Design Director, Creative Director and Account Directors on new and existing client projects and new business development.
  • You will work together with our creative team to lead our packaging design and development, and maintain the consistent implementation across a very large portfolio of baby care products…

…And you’ll help us to push creative boundaries and ensure brand consistency across our mainly global, B2B marketing communications clients, on creation and delivery of animation, video, digital, social media and print work.

  • You will be comfortable with presenting your ideas both internally and in client meetings and enjoy the challenge of being part of a pitch team looking to land new client work.
  • You will see the bigger picture, understand our commercial goals, and be keen to play your part in our success.
  • You will be at home with the whole project lifecycle — from briefing and creation to internal review, and be happy to liaise with clients during the approval process.
  • You are equally happy talking about the big picture as you are keeping an eye on meticulous execution and the day-to-day details.
  • You will ensure artwork adheres to the range and brand guidelines and play an essential role as a brand guardian, working closely with the rest of the design team.
  • You will have a passion for a great creative idea coupled with a stunning execution, a love for design and art direction, and demonstrate eagle-eyed attention to detail.
  • You will thrive in a well-structured, organized environment and not shy away from admin.
  • Like the rest of the team, you will be client-facing — confidence in communicating face-to-face, over video calls and via email is a must.
  • You will be able to juggle multiple projects comfortably, manage deadlines and flag any potential conflicts with our super-organized account team well ahead of time.
  • You will relish the opportunity to get involved with other aspects of Point 6, such as creating content for our social media channels, lending your expertise to other areas of the team, or helping to plan agency social events.
  • You will have an appetite for growth and development, and value quarterly appraisals as chance to show that growth. How you develop within our business will be driven by your personal ambition.

Your skills/must-haves

  • Graphic design/branding trained to degree level.
  • Proven track record in branding, packaging and Marcom — a mix is preferable, but an evidenced understanding of key messaging/comms, branding and design is essential.
  • Big agency experience preferred — at minimum, a healthy career mix of at least two other roles.
  • A mature approach to client/presentation/pitch skills.
Great interpersonal skills and a real team player — you must be able to work with everyone!
  • Experience in supporting/mentoring others, including juniors/other designers.
  • An ability to understand and support our team’s mental health and well-being.
  • An appreciation for/interest in the commercial side of business.
  • A desire to play a role in our ‘land and expand’ approach, pitching for new business and growing our clients/revenue.
  • Gets our culture and is excited by our ‘work hard / have fun / go home’ philosophy.
  • Ambitious — you should want to progress in a fast-paced, forward-thinking agency.

Starting salary: £40K+ — negotiable based on experience.

Hours: 37 hours per week. Monday – Friday.
